点评:Koldinghus can look back on a very long history, which is depicted through miniatures in the castle's basement. One of the highlights is the architectural fusion of the masonry destroyed in the fire of 1808 and the modern wooden construction, which now blends wonderfully into the castle. This creates a great atmosphere that beautifully connects the past and the present. However, due to the spaciousness of the wooden pillars, a lot of room is required, which is why there is somewhat less exhibition space in this area. You can learn about the restoration process, and there is a building area with interlocking bricks for children.
On the upper floors, there is a small clothing exhibition, complete with a small dress-up room and a space to get creative yourself. The exhibition about the danish kings could be a bit more comprehensive. Until 1660, Koldinghus was an important residence for the kings of Denmark, only gradually losing its significance once Copenhagen was established as their permanent seat.
There is a dedicated exhibition, "Royal Child," designed for children, which is wonderfully made and brought a lot of joy even to us as adults without children. It is the first museum that has catered to children on such a comprehensive scale, which I really liked!
The "Flora Danica" porcelain exhibition is also well worth seeing and provides an insight into the craft of porcelain painting and its use at court. Furthermore, the "Woven Masterpieces" exhibition features tapestries and carpets from various centuries (ranging from the 21st down to the 14th century).
A major highlight is the view from the castle tower, which offers a fantastic panorama of the city, the royal lake, and the fjord.
In October 2026, adult admission cost 135 DKK (approx. 18 euros) at the ticket counter (125 DKK / approx. 16.60 euros when purchased online). We spent a total of about 2.5 hours at the castle. There are plenty of restrooms available as well as a restaurant.
