The New Art Gallery Walsall的点评
点评：What a truly fabulous gallery. Certainly the best in the Midlands that I've been to. Only 10 minutes off the M6 and also close to the station. Do visit.
An impressive permanent collection of beautiful art' Durer, Constable, Degas, Matisse, Monet, Picasso, Van Gogh, Freud and many Epstein sculptures, in an impressive modern building that is a joy to wander around. Interesting exhibitions, often with a local theme, as well.
My favourite was the Modiglaini, or perhaps the Durer sketches or was it Epstein's Madonna and Child but then I saw Sally Dunn's Madonna and child. So many things to enjoy.
Much of the permanent collection is the gift of Kathleen Garman and Sally Ryan: two impressive, talented, bold, and luckily wealthy women, who wanted great art to be available outside London. Thanks to them it is.
Kathleen wasn't just a benefactrix. She asked, perhaps insisted, that the art was displayed thematically not chronologically or by artist. A great, thought-provoking way to view art.
