Delightful old Church
Methodist Church的点评
点评：Wednesday 4th February we were exploring and sightseeing in Philipsberg, the capital of Saint Martin.
As we walked along Front Street we spotted this delightful old building. Due to it’s design and structure it did stand out as very different from the more modern style buildings around it.
The Church and the Philipsberg Courthouse are two of the most notable buildings along the street.
The two storey building was built in 1851 and is clad in wood shingle. A small bell tower sits on the roof above the entrance door and is topped with a simple cross.
On the ground floor there were multi-paned sash windows with their white wooden shutters. While on the first floor there are ached shaped window with corresponding shaped white shutters
It stands in a small garden which is surrounded by a white wooden picket fence.
The Church is reporteded to be the first Methodist church and is an outstanding example of 19th-century architecture in the area.
In the early part of 2026 there were celebrations to commemorate the Church's 175 anniversary
