Go early in the morning (around 8:00 AM) to avoid the long queues and intense summer sun if you can. Consider booking skip-the-line passes to save time and have a think about a guided tour to get the most out of your visit. Wear sensible shoes as some of the site is broken and uneven under foot. Take some bottled water with you - you can get it on site at the shop close to the entrance.
I would also do some reading about the Minotaur; the beast was trapped by King Minos in the Labyrinth as this for me is what the Mythology is all about.
