点评：Take a leisurely stroll around Ballater and you are eventually going to find the Old Royal Station the former operating station in the village. The station was formerly the terminus of a branch line from Aberdeen. It was the nearest station to Queen Victoria's residence at Balmoral Castle.
Opened on 17 October 1866 by the Aboyne and Braemar Railway as a third branch line to connect Ballater with Aberdeen. This was not long after Queen Victoria had purchased the Balmoral Estate in 1852. It became a regular arrival terminus for the Royal train brining the Royal Family to the Highlands for their summer holidays.
The station closed for passengers on 28 February 1966 and for goods on 18 July 1966. The Old Royal Station to celebrate its rich heritage was used as a tourist information centre and museum for 15 years.
Early on the morning of 12 May 2015 however, the B-Listed building was devastated by fire, with the flames damaging 90% of the structure including the original roof. After a rebuild that took over a year, the Old Royal Station reopened in August 2018.
Ballater's Old Royal Station continues to stand at the heart of this Deeside village. Today it serves as the village's Tourist Information Centre complete with a well-stocked shop, library and café. There is also a museum and exhibition celebrating the station's links with Royalty. Admission is free, and the museum contains many exhibits and pictures from the stations history. There is even a replica of Queen Victoria's Royal Coach.
