Amazing trek and tours, amazing staff, amazing company!

点评：We booked the North Sumatra highlights package which included a 3D/2N jungle trek, tour of Bukit Lawang and the bat caves, and a trip to Berastagi, and thoroughly recommend it! If you want bang for your buck, this package is definitely the way to go!
First of all, the lodge is great. Very clean, great facilities, and all the staff were very welcoming and helpful. The trek was amazing. Our guides, Heri 1 and Heri 2, were fantastic - both very knowledgeable, experienced, kind, accomodating, and made everyone feel comfortable and safe the whole time, even during the very difficult parts of the trek. Our chef, Gugun, was great - cooked all meals fresh and all were delicious, generous portions, and presented beautifully. We saw 3 orangutans, macaques, langurs, gibbons, and hornbills. Best of all, the company has a respectful, ethical approach towards nature which is what really made it so special and enjoyable.
Bukit Lawang is a lovely village and it was nice to be shown and learn more about how the locals make things using traditional practices. The bat caves were an adventure in themselves as well! The Berastagi day tour was brilliant - we got to see and learn so much including a sunrise volcano hike. The partner guesthouse in Berastagi was great and Mery and Abdy were absolutely amazing hosts!
Can't recommend SOE enough for jungle treks and the other activities/tours they offer - the experienced guides, ethical stance towards the animals and environment, and care for the local communities is a winning combination!
