点评:Our night tour was a once-in-a-lifetime experience! We were fortunate to have Donald, the owner of Tapir Valley for 19 years, as our guide. On our tour, we saw five snakes, a pair of pauraque chicks, a kinkajou, lots of spiders and insects, and a dozen species of frogs, including the Tapir Valley tree frog, Tlalocohyla celeste, a new species that Donald discovered! It is a microendemic to the wetlands in the Tapir Valley Reserve and cannot be found anywhere else in the world. But the highlight of the evening was seeing FIVE tapirs: Lunita Pink, Oreja Cortada, Mamita, Julian, and a new female tapir not seen in the reserve before.
The Tapir Valley Reserve is one of the only places in the world conducting critical research on wild tapirs. This research is shared with scientists and conservationists in Costa Rica and around the world to help better protect this endangered and treasured species. The reserve hosts a number of other unique research and conservation initiatives for native rainforest species as well. Consider supporting the vital work they are doing by booking a tour at the reserve!
