点评:We set off at 7am on an early morning kayaking expedition to the islands. It was just my husband and I in a double kayak and a support boat which guided us and was able to carry our backpacks and water. I thoroughly recommend this activity. It's an amazing way to see the islands and was one of the highlights of our time in Peru.
The construction of the islands is explained once you are there. There is discussion online as to whether the islanders really live there or whether they do a daily commute from Puno. If the later is the case, the argument seems to be that it is not authentic. However we viewed our time there as visiting a living museum and found the history and people very interesting.
It is touristy and there is a pressure to buy something at the end of the tour but you can just buy something small and treat it as a donation that you might make at a museum. The islanders seemed to be happy to sell anything, however small.
