Glorified zoo, do not go if you have a heart for animals

点评：I would say antelope park in an overrated zoo. Before getting there it seems like it is a dream animal sanctuary, but it is not. The elephants are hit with wooden sticks to perform tricks with a ball and to take pictures with guests/volunteers. From 4pm until 7am they are kept in a small pen with the 3 of them. They have no shadow, no water, no hay. Just a few branches to snack on. Then during the day they are only allowed in a small area. They are never actually free. Then the horses. The horses are all underfed, they are extremely under muscled and in no way fit to carry ANY rider. The horses seem unhappy and mentally shut off. All horses in the pictures are being ridden daily. They rarely have a day off. Lots of them have injuries that they are still ridden with. When a horse is lame in trot, it still has to go on walk rides. Even if its 30 degrees outside, the horses will be ridden twice a day, on rare occasions 3 times a day. It is definitely not as dreamy as the pictures make it seem. The rooms are old, but what you can expect from africa i think. When it rains, all activities are cancelled so you are stuck doing nothing all day. Some rooms don’t have wifi and the power will shut off when it rains too much. All of the staff is lovely! However the interns sit at a different table during breakfast, lunch and dinner and pretend as if the volunteers do not exist. The food is fine, but kinda the same every day so you eventually get sick of it. They say its not allowed for staff/interns to hook up with volunteers, however it happens all the time and is pretty obvious. I feel like the animal management NEEEDDSS to be better! And they should be more selective in who they hire as intern, as they are extremely unprofessional, rude and childish. The place has potential, but i feel like the animals should come first instead of people’s entertainment.
