Fantastic Safari, with a few bumps along the way

点评：George and David were our guides for the first part of the trip, and they were fantastic; incredibly knowledgeable about the wildlife and nature, spotting animals we would never have noticed ourselves. We bonded with them quickly and had a great time together. Unfortunately, on day four, the gearbox on our Land Cruiser started leaking oil, and by day five the vehicle had to go back to Nairobi for repairs. Because George and David needed to return with the jeep, we were assigned a new guide. We weren’t happy about this and asked if only the vehicle could be swapped instead, but we were told this wasn’t possible due to company policy. It felt like a real gut-punch, almost like the end of our safari as we’d known it.
Our new guide, Tony, was also lovely, but you can’t build the same connection with a guide in a single day that you’ve built over four. The replacement vehicle was an old rattletrap, though that didn’t bother us much. Thankfully, Tony knew just as much about the animals and nature as George and David had. In our view, the guide should be the one who sees the safari through to the end. The connection is between guide and client, not guide and vehicle, so switching guides instead of just the car felt like the wrong call. We understand Flexivel couldn’t help the mechanical issue, but we do think the guide-vehicle pairing policy needs rethinking.
On top of that, two of our accommodations were swapped for various reasons without any prior consultation, which came as unwelcome surprises at the time. That said, in the end both replacement accommodations turned out to be absolutely top-notch; so the properties themselves were never the issue, it was purely the lack of communication beforehand. If Flexivel had simply let us know in advance, it would have avoided some frustrating conversations along the way.
All in all, we had a fantastic week. We saw so much and enjoyed every bit of it. Guides really can make or break your safari, and we got lucky. One tip: skip the group safari if you can. Looking back, we should have booked a private one from the start; with a group, you never really know who you’ll be spending an entire week with. We got lucky there too.

总的来说，我们度过了非常愉快的一周。我们看到了很多美景，每一刻都乐在其中。导游真的能决定一次游猎之旅的成败，而我们很幸运遇到了好导游。一个小建议：如果可以的话，尽量别参加团体游猎。回头看来，我们其实应该从一开始就预订私人定制的游猎行程；参加团体游猎的话，你永远不知道自己会和什么样的人共度整整一周。不过在这方面我们也很幸运。
