点评:I was very excited to stretch my legs on the scenic and serene Greenbrier Trail as a short spring vacation prior to other business in western Virginia. I was fortunate to have two days to pedal and explore the area, and had a great rental experience with Jerry at River City Bikes. He was able to outfit me with a standard mountain bike, but they also rent e-bikes for those that are less keen on pedaling the whole way. The first day was a point to point ride that started rainy and cool, but by pushing back my start time upon Jerry’s recommendation it allowed time for the majority of the weather to pass. My first day was from Cass to Seebert. True to Jerry’s guidance, drizzle turned into fluffy white clouds and sunshine that contrasted the bright green spring leaves. Highlights were Sharp’s Tunnel and the quaint town of Marlinton. I was able to wrap up after around 35 miles in Seebert at their trail side general store with a refreshing treat.
The second day was an out and back adventure that would take me as far as my legs could pedal. Start was in Lewisburg with a hope to make it to Renick, but photographing the waterfall, wildflowers, birds, and river views slowed my progress and I didn’t mind. I made my turn around just past Spring Creek at a newly replaced bridge over the river.
All bridges on trail were well maintained, the gravel trail was also well looked after and mostly flat. Padded bike shorts were very helpful for the longer rides but shorter rides definitely don’t require them. Water was quite limited on the trail so plan to bring a sufficient amount of bottles if you’re going longer distance. Cell service was not bad out of Lewisburg but out of Cass quickly because non-existent, but happily resumed in Marlinton.
The bike performed great, not much shifting was required on the mostly flat trail. The standard tires performed well and I think you could even get away with hybrid tires. Overall rental experience was great, and the valuable knowledge from River City Bikes to push back my start proved to create a memorable adventure.
