点评:LOVED visiting the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust!!
This is not a zoo or a park made for people. It’s a rescue organization that allows visitors once a day to support its mission.
Reserved your spot well in advance.
We were surprised that so many people were with us (~250?) and we all stood around the fence before the animals arrived.
First the keepers brought in Tytan (black rhino) and Notty (zebra). While we watched, they fed them and told us about them.
After they left, the elephants came. When we visited, there were 12 elephants.
They fed the ones still taking bottles, then all of them played on the water, mud and dust. It was awesome.
One of the keepers introduced each elephant and told their story. About half way through that, it became very had to hear what he said because all of the guests were chatting. It’s hard to blame people to being so excited about being so close up these incredible animals!
It was really fascinating and uplifting to hear how the elephants are cared for until they are ready to be put back into the wild. We were so happy to learn that the animals lead this process and the humans follow their readiness cues.
Highly recommend this excellent activity.
