Wonderful Two Days Exploring Sri Lanka with Shan 🇱🇰

点评：We are two friends who came to Sri Lanka mainly for surfing, and unfortunately, we only had two days to explore with Shan. Even though our time was limited, he really made the most of every moment and gave us an amazing introduction to Sri Lankan culture, nature, and wildlife.
Shan picked us up from our hotel in Negombo with a big smile and a very warm welcome. On the way towards Dambulla, we quickly realised that the journey itself was going to be part of the experience. Whenever we saw an interesting animals, birds, or lizards, Shan was happy to stop for us. He knew so much about the wildlife and nature around us and gave us really interesting explanations. We saw so many different animals that we would probably have missed if we had been travelling on our own.
We visited the Dambulla Cave Temple, where Shan explained the history, paintings, statues, and everything we were seeing. His knowledge made the temple visit much more interesting and meaningful.
Afterwards, he took us to a beautiful local village for lunch with a Sri Lankan family. This was one of our favourite experiences. We learned how they prepare traditional rice and curry, make coconut milk, and use local ingredients. We even got involved and helped prepare some Sri Lankan food ourselves. Shan was with us throughout the experience, explaining the traditions and helping us understand how local people live.
In the evening, we enjoyed a beautiful traditional Sri Lankan dancing show. On our way back, we were incredibly lucky to see two elephants on the road! It was such a special moment and the perfect end to an already amazing first day.
The next morning, Shan started early with us so we could visit Pidurangala Rock and watch the sunrise. After checking out, we continued towards Kandy, visiting several beautiful temples and places along the way. We also visited the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy, where Shan again shared his knowledge and helped us understand the cultural and historical importance of the place.
One thing we really appreciated was that Shan never rushed us. If we wanted to stop and look at something — whether it was a temple, an animal, a bird, or simply a beautiful view — he was always happy to stop. He turned our transfers into part of the adventure.
Even though it was raining at times during our visit, Shan somehow managed to get the timing almost perfect. We were able to enjoy our activities while avoiding most of the rain, and everything went smoothly from beginning to end.
The car was very clean, neat, comfortable, and had excellent air conditioning. Shan was also a very safe and careful driver, but what really stood out was his knowledge, friendliness, and genuine enthusiasm for showing us his country.
We only had two days together, and honestly, we wished we had more time. We had to say goodbye much sooner than we would have liked, but hopefully it is not goodbye forever. We are definitely coming back to Sri Lanka, and we would love to explore more with Shan next time.
