点评:I've been thinking about going on a Crab/Rockfish combo trip for years, ever since reading about it in Tom Stienstra's old SF Chronicle column, and finally made the time.
I came home with 10 crab and 10 rockfish. It was a fun but very long day. 10 hours on the water mostly spent watching the view, talking with friends and strangers, eating our lunches and drinking.
We left Emeryville at 5:30am, heading out for two hours until we reached the spot south of the Farralon Islands where the crew dropped the crab rings (regular commercial crab pots are currently prohibited for wildlife protection).
Then we cruised another hour to where we fished. It was about an hour of frenetic fishing as 26 shoulder to shoulder anglers pulled up 260 rockfish from 250 feet down. Deckhand Jack busy keeping our lines in the water as nearly every other hook-up resulted in a tangle with another angler. After we all had our limits we headed back to those crab rings.
We put our feet up as Jack first fileted our chatch and then pulled in the crabs.
AND there was the tsunami warning. First our phones all sounded the tsunami alarm and then phones started ringing with wives calling to make sure the life insurance was paid up. Thankfully, no tsunami happened.
Aside from the hour of actual fishing it was super chill. Just hanging out and watching the deckhands work HARD for 10 hours. They were really supportive and straight up friendly.
We got back to the dock after 3:30pm, where two outfits were available to process our catch.
For $20 they cleaned and vacuum packed our fish. The other palce cooked and cleaned the crabs for $3@.
The trip was $245 cash or $252.96 with a credit card.
Rod rental as $10 & a tackle package/gunny sack was $20.
My bill was $284 with tax.
$284
$40 crew tip
20 fish fileting (with $5 tip)
25 fish packing (with $5 tip)
35 crab cooking (with $5 tip)
$404 total, a great value.
I've got a freezer full of crab and rockfish.
Going to go again next year, for sure.
