点评:As another reviewer mentioned this trail is trashed and unkept. It immediately reminds you of the lack of care placed into African American communities and neighborhoods. Funny how Virginia is full of beautiful well preserved trails and pristine historic sites even dating back to the 1600s. There are so many beautiful well preserved Confederate sites and monuments that you'd forget that these were dark racist times at all.
After you leave the ST1 Manchester dock portion of the trail you pretty much have to guess where the trail continues (take a right past the underpass). I even began to create a justification for the lack of care . Maybe the trail is supposed to be hard to follow? Maybe the lack of open signage is supposed to be transformative and place you in the mind of a slave during those times wondering aimlessly never knowing what's to come next? If your opened minded like me I'd still go and see it this way. I personally dont know if I finished the trail because I was lead down a hill into a trolley graveyard (which was cool but pretty sure not a path meant to be taken). After the graveyard there is an amazing find though which made me believe maybe it was all linked after all. Which if this is the case is very clever on the cities behalf. The Hidden RVA 11:11 portal in which when stumbled upon is a place to pay hommage to our ancestors on whose shoulders we stand.
This is where I looped back for the trailhead because going further would have landed me in another park entirely. Im gonna keep my version and interpretation of the trail because the reality of no one caring enough to clean this place up troubles me. So much so that I am considering starting a trail maintenance group. And I dont even live in Richmond.
Again, not surprised but disappointed.
