Fab snorkelling on a beautiful reef

点评：Every visit helps restore coral reefs, protect marine biodiversity and support local livelihoods .
This is such a fantastic community run experience. 20 years ago the community came together to set this area as a marine sanctuary and protect it from over fishing, The result is that now it is a thriving reef system with over 200 species of fish, sometimes turtles and beautiful corals. In conjunction with Oceans Alive NGO the community have been planting new coral and carefully restoring this reef, its now the best along the Kenyan coast and well worth a visit.
What they have done here is so remarkable that King Charles visited as part of his royal tour of Kenya in 2023!
The snorkelling guides (from the community) are very patient and knowledgeable.
Every snorkelling experience now contributes to re building the reef and to a vital alternative income source for the community. they also have a lovely beach restaurant serving local specialities.
They also have a glass bottomed boat if you prefer to stay dry!
Security is now good and we did not feel at any time unsafe here. the local people are nothing but friendly and welcoming.
You can also adopt a coral (you will receive photos and progress updates) or build a coral restoration structure and then actually help plant juvenile corals onto nursery tables beneath the ocean surface - a personalised glass plaque with your name on is then embedded within the coral block or rock beneath the sea.
By visiting for a snorkel or adopting a coral and supporting restoration efforts, you become part of a legacy that will protect marine ecosystems, support coastal communities and inspire future generations.
