点评：This is an impressive house that has been restored with incredible care to truly bring to life what it would have been like in years gone by. What makes the experience so memorable is that you do not just feel the grandeur of the place, you also learn the history behind it and develop a real connection to it.
It is a fascinating story about a coal baron who poured his heart and soul into creating this magnificent home, only to sadly pass away before ever getting the chance to live in it himself.
The later history of the house is equally interesting. At one stage it was raffled off in a lottery, with the winner reportedly managing to spend all the money they made from it. Over the years it also served as an army hospital, a school, and a college, adding even more layers to its remarkable story.
Easily reachable for cruise ship passengers with an uber from where you are dropped off by the ship / ship shuttle into town. No need to do a ship excursion.
