Excellent 'small'/mid-size museum well worth a visit! (Niki de Ste-Phalle ends Jan 4th!)

点评：Excellent 'small'/mid-size (compared to the behemoths of Paris/Vienna/D.C./MOMA etc) museum well worth visiting, meaning: if you're anywhere in eastern Canada, it's worth coming here (and getting to eat some of the great food available in Quebec, a gorgeous city). I didn't preview what was on, and thus was surprised and delighted to be able to see the superbly curated, paced, and lighted, world-class exhibit of Niki de Saint Phalle's later work. Niki was a force of nature (in addition to her wonderful work, she took on many important social causes with the same energy and passion) and the excellent choices and curatorial notes in the MNBAQ exhibition bring this out. Most francophiles will know her work (with husband Jean Tinguely) at the Stravinsky Fountain next to the Centre Georges-Pompidou in Paris (also e.g. one her 'Nanas' in Zürich Bahnhof), but there is so much more to learn about her. Besides another well-curated exhibit of quebecoise design, on the top floor, there is a stunning permanent exhibition of Inuit sculpture from the Brousseau collection. Again, excellent curation and lighting are on display. One of the treats is taking the stairway up to it in this beautiful building. Despite some other reviewers' (IMHO petty) complaints, it's a nice (longish) walk from the Old Town, and would combine nicely walking back through the Plains of Abraham.
