点评:We recently visited the Halifax Citadel in Nova Scotia. I had never heard of it before, so it was an interesting surprise. It is beautifully maintained, and occupies the space where a small British fort was built in 1749, as a defense during the beginning of the French and Indian War. 2 subsequent forts were built there. The present day fort was built in 1828, and designated as a National Historic Site. It is star-shaped and features a dry moat between the inner and outer walls. There are cannons and other artifacts. I believe there was a museum, which our tour didn’t allow time for. We did observe the re-enactors performing the changing of the guard when the sentry’s shift was up. The hill also affords a great view of the city of Halifax. It is also near the Halifax Maritime Museum, as well as the Halifax Public Gardens, so it is fairly easy to go between the three sites, even by walking.
