Fort Leavenworth spur-of-the-moment visit.

点评：Had not really thought about touring the fort. Thought it would be too difficult or hard to get in, maybe we would be in the way? Oh no! Their website made it super easy to get in via an online registration. I filled out our info about 9:30 pm and by 8:30 am the next day, I got a message saying we were cleared and had a 2 day pass. All we had to do was show the ID (Ks DL) I used for registration and we were in in no time. We entered through the Grant Gate. There is no visitor center once inside on that entrance so we had to find our way to the Frontier Army Museum and gathered the Wayside Points Map and other information there. The gift shop attendant was super helpful in giving us pointers. Each stop is narrated via a phone app. The Buffalo Soldier Monument is a must see and requires a walk through the park to see all of the points and see the Berlin Wall pieces. The entire tour was very interesting! We spent about 4 1/2 hours there including stopping for lunch.
The whole Fort is a city within a city. Really an amazing place. Saw lots of moving vans with families settling in.
We had lunch inside the USDB, US Disciplinary Barracks, at the Block 12 Grill. Great food!
We finished our driving tour with a quiet drive through the National Cemetery. No matter what period of time a soldier fought for my freedom, I am humbly grateful for the sacrifice of not only the soldier, but his family as well.
The whole Fort is a city within a city. Really an amazing place. Saw lots of moving vans with families settling in.
We had lunch inside the USDB, US Disciplinary Barracks, at the Block 12 Grill. Great food!
