点评:Absolutely stunning Gothic revival house and garden.
Friendly staff at reception followed by a walk through the shop (not quite exit through the gift shop) then a scenic walk from the old stables down to the house. Usual national trust rules - hold your rucksack don't use flash for photos, if there's a sign saying don't touch then don't touch and there's some volunteers about if you need knowledge. The rooms on the ground floor are stunning - ceilings and carving are beautiful. William Burges designed a wildly dramatic building. One guide in particular was really enthusiastic and shared lots of knowledge, showing me designs and photos and comparisons in the rooms - really added to the visit.
Weather was a bit iffy for us so a brief walk round the gardens close to the house (lovely) and then back to the stable block for the cafe (good, nice chilli), bookshop (an disorganised chaos) and the gift shop (woo hoo a sale). The only thing really preventing 5 stars was because the upstairs wasn't accessible due to not having enough volunteers, which is understandable but always a bit of a shame.
