点评:We rented an Airbnb for the week and made Ichetucknee Springs State Park one of our main stops. We didn’t come to paddle, we were there to hike, but it’s easy to see why this place is so popular. It’s a gorgeous area, and whether you’re looking to launch a kayak, tube, or just swim, it seems like a wonderful spot for it. There are clean bathrooms and even a small concession area, which was a nice touch.
As for the hiking, the scenery is truly beautiful, but I’ll be honest, two of the trails are relatively short and we didn’t encounter much wildlife along the way. We opted for the longer trail, and that’s where things took a turn.
Before we even set off, we noticed ticks — at least a dozen — on everyone in our group. Thankfully, most seemed to brush off the others without latching. I wasn’t so lucky. I kept finding them on me for two days afterward, and now I am dealing with Lyme disease. I am not exaggerating.
We have lived in Florida for nearly 20 years near Sarasota and have never encountered a single tick, so it simply didn’t cross our minds to apply repellent. Please don’t make the same mistake we did. If you visit, and it is definitely worth visiting, wear long pants, tuck in your socks, and apply tick repellent before you hit any of the trails. Don’t let our experience scare you away, but do let it prepare you.
