点评:A fascinating insight into the lives of those who worked in the cotton mills in the 18th & 19th centuries. First we went to the mill and watched a demonstration of some of the spinning and weaving machines. the staff who demonstrated were very knowledgeable and explained not only how the machines worked but also about the people who would have worked there.
Then we visited the manor house, only the ground floor is open, but it was surprisingly modest for such a rich mill-owner.
Finally we did the guided tour of the Apprentices House - this is a must-see. The guide was very enthusiastic, explaining how the child workers lived.
Number are limited for the Apprentice House tour, so make sure you book on a tur when you arrive at Quarry Bank.
Due to the weather we did not explore the gardens, but will definitely be back.
