Burns Night Murder Mystery - Absolutely incredible!

点评：My girlfriend surprised me with tickets to the Burns Night murder mystery dinner, and it was just phenomenal from start to finish. Pete (the driver) was so kind and generous with his time, letting both of us step into the boiler room and indulging our many questions about the train and its mechanisms, which was a super unexpected perk! Other guests had a look in at the end of the trip, but we felt extremely grateful to get so much time in there before departure.
I'd recommend you arrive a good half an hour before the time stated on your tickets - we were able to walk all up and down the platform to really take in the train (the gorgeous Battle of Britain steam engine, diesel unit at the other end, and carriages in between), have the time in the boiler room and a browse in the station/museum itself.
The actors were just superb - the mystery was really fun to try to work out (even if we failed spectacularly in our accusation), and the actors all kept us laughing the entire evening (all three of them playing multiple roles as well!). We teamed up with another couple sat opposite (I think we had to be in teams of 4 as a minimum) and they were super friendly.
The train ride itself was fantastic - it was a really smooth journey, and the carriages were kept nice and warm on the cold January night, with the option to open the windows a smidgen later on as it got quite warm. As it was night, we couldn't see that much outside of the window, but a) the actors, dinner and friends we made kept us plenty busy and b) it gives us an excuse to come back another day.
Our meals were absolutely exquisite - a gorgeous cheese and chutney pastry to start, followed by a generous portion of macaroni cheese (restaurant quality) with seasonal veggies, and an eton-mess like pudding. A really good vegetarian option for us both (and the meat-eaters were sending back empty plates!) with a lovely, chilled bottle of white wine.
All in all, a birthday treat I'll remember for a long time, for all the best reasons. I would absolutely recommend this place in a heartbeat, and hope to visit again someday.
