点评:This museum completely exceeded our expectations!
First of all, it is actually two museums in one: a 19th-century prison and, right next to it, an 18th-century castle prison. The staff member was kind enough to tell us all about the castle prison while we were buying our admission tickets, which cost 90 SEK.
Secondly, the variety of the exhibition was truly impressive. It features a vast collection of items that give you a clear understanding of how Sweden’s penal system evolved from the 17th century to the present day.
Thirdly, we actually met a former inmate who had served a 10-month sentence in this very prison. He was happy to share his story and even showed us his old cell. The exhibition in the castle prison about the period known as "The Great Noise" (Det stora oväsendet) — a mass hysteria related to the 17th-century witch hunts — was also fascinating.
The museum is very easy to find, and there is plenty of parking nearby. It is a highly interesting museum that is definitely worth a visit! Just make sure to check the opening hours on their website before you go.
