Disappointing Palace, Poorly Managed Tour
Thurn und Taxis Palace的点评
点评：We visited Thurn und Taxis Palace in Regensburg in August and joined the 4.30 p.m. guided tour, as this was the only way to see the interior of the palace.
Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. The tour was available only in German. As we do not speak German, we were given English audio guides, while some French visitors who spoke neither German nor English had to follow the visit using a booklet with photographs and a few written notes.
What was particularly frustrating was the complete lack of clear information for international visitors. When we bought the tickets, nobody explained that photography was prohibited, nor did we notice any clear signs stating this. When I took out my phone to take a photograph, the guide abruptly stopped speaking halfway through a sentence and reprimanded me in an unnecessarily aggressive and humiliating manner, as though I had committed some serious offence. A simple explanation would have been more than enough, particularly since the rule had never been made clear to us.
The guide also repeatedly switched the lights off as soon as she had finished explaining each room, even while visitors were still trying to look around. This was especially irritating for those of us following the tour through audio guides and already struggling to see the rooms properly because the German-speaking group naturally clustered around the guide.
The organisation was poor in other respects too. Our tour was the last one of the day, at 4.30 p.m., yet the café had already closed at 4 p.m. There was nowhere comfortable to sit while waiting, despite torrential rain outside, and very little consideration seemed to be given to visitors waiting for the tour.
Finally, the palace itself did not justify either the price or the time spent there. We have visited many historic residences across Europe, and we found the interiors relatively unremarkable, with little that felt particularly distinctive or memorable. Even the souvenir shop seemed to reinforce this impression: a surprising amount of space was devoted to Empress Elisabeth of Austria (Sisi), whose connection to the palace is essentially through her elder sister Helene, who married into the Thurn und Taxis family. While Sisi did visit the palace, it felt rather odd to see her used so prominently as part of the attraction, almost as though the palace needed to borrow the appeal of a much more famous historical figure rather than rely on its own collections and history.
Overall, an expensive and disappointing experience, made considerably worse by poor organisation and an exceptionally rude attitude from the guide. For an attraction receiving international visitors, much better communication, hospitality and visitor management should be expected.
