点评:Charging entry to a Christmas market already leaves a bad taste. In a country where Christmas markets are usually open, public, and part of the communal fabric of a city, paying a significant fee and still have to buy overpriced food and drinks feels cynical and exclusionary. This is a private, aristocratic estate run by extremely wealthy nobles. The idea that visitors should subsidise that privilege is hard to swallow.
The palace tour itself is similarly poor value. The ticket price is hefty for what you actually see, and compared with other historic buildings in Bavaria, it feels underwhelming and overly controlled. There’s a strong sense that you’re being funnelled through a curated showcase of wealth rather than genuinely welcomed into a cultural site.
What ultimately sealed it for me, though, is principle. The owners are well known for their far-right political views and public statements and I’m not comfortable financially supporting that. Knowing where the money goes matters. Regensburg has plenty of excellent, inclusive cultural attractions and genuinely festive Christmas markets that don’t come with this baggage.
This place represents everything that feels wrong about turning culture into a gated, pay-to-enter luxury - elitist, overpriced and politically uncomfortable. I’d recommend skipping it and spending your time (and money) elsewhere in the city.
