Three colleagues and I travelled from Canada to Ireland with one goal in mind—to experience authentic Irish fly fishing. From our very first interaction, Mick exceeded our expectations. Communication in the months leading up to the trip was excellent, and all arrangements and directions were clear and straightforward.
Mick picked us up from our hotel at 6:00 a.m. and immediately made us feel welcome. His wife had thoughtfully prepared a fantastic selection of snacks and a generous lunch for the day, ensuring we were well looked after from start to finish.
What truly sets Mick apart is his passion, knowledge, and genuine hospitality. He provided everything we needed, including waders, boots, rain gear, fishing equipment, and expert guidance. Whether sharing stories, teaching techniques, or finding the perfect fishing spots, his enthusiasm was infectious and made the entire day memorable.
As a World Champion fly fisherman, Mick's expertise is obvious from the moment you step onto the water with him. His advice on casting, reading the water, and locating fish was invaluable, and he seemed to know every productive stretch of river in the area.
Beyond the fishing itself, Mick is simply a wonderful person to spend a day with—engaging, funny, and deeply proud of his local area and its fishing heritage. The experience felt less like a guided tour and more like spending a day on the water with an old friend.
If fly fishing in Ireland is on your bucket list, I couldn't recommend Mick highly enough. He helped make our trip truly unforgettable. And if you're lucky, you may even recognize a few casts that look straight out of A River Runs Through It! 😉
