点评:We toured this site with Tricia, who researches and works there. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and described what many of the structures represented. She addressed the history of Cozumel as well as of the Mayans. It surprised me that the San Gervais site is 3 square miles. To protect it, only 3% is accessible by the public.
We learned about the cleansing chambers, the birthing chamber, El Arco - the entry arch from the sea, the army housing, and where the leader received the public. We saw residences, altars, the ossuary, as well as the red hand prints of Las Manitas. There were other tours there at the same time so Tricia would alter her tour route so we weren’t waiting at each structure.
We were there 1.5 hours but I could have easily spent twice that. It was fascinating! And be forewarned to take plenty of water. I drank far more than I expected I would.
