Drifting down the Martha Brae,
My birthday raft, adorned today
With leaves and flowers looking great
Humroy is captain, I'm first mate.
Leaping off the raft, we fly
My water-loving child and I.
Humroy poles the raft nearby,
Watching with a captain’s eye
Humroy sings a patois song
We listen as we swim along
John Crows perch in trumpet trees
Jamaica sun and river breeze
Cool, clear waters, we float and sway
As stress and worry drift away
Bamboo groves and singing birds
Shouting life, no need for words.
A huge thanks to our captain Humroy who was so kind, friendly and knowledable about the trees, plants, birds, and anything else connected to the river. It was one of the most peaceful experiences I have ever had!
