My life in Ruins!

点评：We were staying in Half Moon Bay, Akumal and decided we needed to experience some historic Mexican culture by visiting the Mayan Ruins in Tulum. We arrived in Tulum in our rental car at approximately 10:00am, mid-week. The ruins are well signposted but nothing had prepared us for the mayhem as we arrived... the world and its wife were furiously waiving flags to get our attention, several of these animated maniacs ran in front of our car in order to get us to park nearby. We pushed on looking for official parking close to the ruins and yet more people accosted us and told us we could go no further. We did! Eventually we caved in and parked just short of the entrance site at a cost of $100MX (about £4) for the day. Not actually very much given the utter riot we experienced! Visiting the Mayan Ruins is not as cheap... approximately £30 per person to enter. We queued for about 3 minutes to buy our tickets. Clearly the queue can get quite long as this is a popular attraction. Many of the maniacs will try to sell you a ticket to avoid queuing. I would suggest not buying one off anyone other than the official ticket office!! The site of the Ruins is large and spacious. The Ruins are quite stunning and testament to Mayan ingenuity that they are still standing. I enjoyed walking around the Ruins without a guide. Guides are available and we saw dozens of guided groups, most of which were being overloaded with detailed information and almost comatose. Personally I like a short, sharp and concise burst of information and I would be in danger of throwing my over-knowledgable guide off the historic Mayan clifftop. In summary, the Ruins are good and worth a visit. Are they worth £30 per person? No not really.
