Awesome scenery, but an uphill return hike
Vikingsholm Hiking Trail的点评
点评:This trail is all downhill from the parking lot to the Vikingsholm Castle at Emerald Bay. But, beware the one-mile return trip is all uphill! The purpose of the trail is to reach the Vikingsholm Castle, but the trail itself is enjoyable just for the scenery. Right off at the parking lot one gets fantastic views of Lake Tahoe, Emerald Bay and Fannette Island. Vikingsholm is part of the Emerald Bay State Park, and there is a $10 parking fee (in 2022); alternately one could park at the nearby Eagle Falls trailhead (Forest Service), and take a walk up to the Vikingsholm parking lot. At the end of the trail, i.e., at Vikingsholm is also the Park Visitor Center and the trailhead for the Lower Eagle Falls. Hike to the falls is short but quite steep. Due to all these additional features, the trail is absolutely worth the effort even if Vikingsholm is not open.
