Dunes and dips: Desert sunrise and Wadi Babi Khalid

点评：I had a feeling this would be the highlight of our Oman trip but wanted to wait until the end to make sure. It was! We did the Desert sunrise and Wadi Bani Khalid tour on 7 April.
When we woke up at 2.30 am we questioned our decision!! But the experience of seeing the start of the day in the desert is indescribable. Our incredible guide Khalid made the experience personal and unique. At every step, he made sure we were comfortable and enjoying it - whilst also giving us the space to discover things for ourselves. From showing us the perfect angle to see the sunrise, to increasing the intensity of the dune bashing as our confidence grew, to spending some time cleaning the dunes from plastic to meeting the local camels (very) up close, it all was done with a generosity of heart and spirit.
We didn’t think it could get better until we got to Bani Khalid! It was the most stunning landscape with deep clear waters, beautiful rock formations and endless mango trees… and “pedicure” fish in the water.
Diving into the water felt incredible. And when my daughter was nervous, the wonderful Khalid borrowed shorts from the local cafe owner and jumped in to reassure her!
He pumped her up so much that she ended up jumping from one of the highest points! This will be a core memory for her and Khalid was at the centre of it.
This was a beautiful experience and Khalid made it a lifetime memory. He was not really a “guide” but a genuine host who wanted us to fall in love with Oman. And we did. Thank you!
