点评:11/1/25 My husband and I noticed on the Great Smoky Mountains NPS website that there was a warning for bear activity on the Cove Mountain Trail. After you hike to Cataract Falls, you cross the creek and you are on the Cove Mountain Trail. We hiked for 1 hour - about 2 miles on this trail and found 2 piles of bear poop! But we never saw a bear. :(
The trail was all uphill and very pretty. Not much to see other than the woods and some moutain lookouts. But it was peacful at 7am! At the 2 mile mark we came across an old gate and remnants of a building. We found a NPS marker showing the edge of the Smoky Mountain Park and there was bamboo growing there! There was even a well and we pumped it and got water! We didn't drink it though.... We decided we had hiked far enough so we headed back to the Sugarlands Visitor Center where we started. We hiked approx. 3.9 miles in 2 hours after taking a break at that old building/gate. I know this trail does continue to Laurel Falls but we didn't want to go that far.
