点评:I’m relatively new to the area, live in NC a few hours from this place. We decided to take a short road trip to check it out on a rainy weekend. I could see what it once was, years ago it must have been a great stop for travelers but now it seems to be just hanging on. The gift shops are well stocked, priced about what you would expect for a tourist trap and the employees were friendly.
My complaint is the reptile exhibit. I found it to be heartbreaking. Alligators, crocs and caymans live in swampy places full of vegetation. These animals are on sand and concrete with small pools and heat lamps. There is no room for much exercise or movement and zero stimulation otherwise. This is cruelty and I know many of them have lived this way for years. Even the tortoises only have sand and concrete. The animals are obviously fed and their enclosures are clean, but that’s the only positive thing to say. I don’t believe the people who run this place mean them harm, but harm is happening. No animal should live this way.
