点评:This is an excellent local museum, locate in the lighthouse keeper's house (1880), one of the most historic buildings in KI. It also occupies a prominent site overlooking the town and its picturesque harbour. In some ways the museum is typical of many small-town museums with many rooms overcrowded with old items. As you might expect for King Island, the information on the island's many shipwrecks is particularly strong, with two 'Shipwreck rooms' including one dedicated to the Cataraqui, wrecked here in 1840 with the loss of 399 lives. It was Australia's worst civil maritime disaster. The shed featuring the original crystal lens from the Cape Wickham lighthouse was another highlight. It was reassembled without any instructions by in its entirety by volunteers. A massive achievement I thought. The museum is definitely worth a look - for an hour or two
