点评:Bendigo Art Gallery- you have done it again. The Paris exhibition was outstanding. Brilliantly curated, with clothing, shoes, furniture and even shop fittings from the relevant Paris quarter or period to set off the large number of paintings of Paris, which included many by unfamiliar artists who obviously loved their city. The walls were decorated with huge street photographs of Paris, old Paris maps and fascinating moving pictures courtesy of the Lumiere Brothers. (Wonder if their surname was their inspiration...?).
The Gallery continues to build its reputation for excellence and I have not enjoyed an exhibition so much in a long time- uncrowded, huge galleries, able to stand back or get up close. Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney, please take note.
Bendigo itself is a great jewel with grand buildings and streets built on the back of gold. My only criticism; no where to go for breakfast. We settled for a takeaway coffee and a manufactured blue-berry muffin. But who really cares- we were almost in Paris, in our dreams.
