More Than a Tour — An Amazon Experience I’ll Never Forget

点评：I honestly don’t know where to start with this review because Henry Eco Tours was so much more than just a tour of the Amazon.
Of course the wildlife was incredible. The sheer amount and variety of animals, birds and other wildlife we were able to see was beyond what I expected, and so much of that came down to Henry’s knowledge and his ability to spot things I would never have noticed myself. He knows this environment incredibly well — not just where to look for animals, but the plants, the rivers, the jungle and the people who live there. You very quickly realise that this isn’t someone who has simply learned how to guide tourists around the Amazon. This is his world.
But what really made the experience special for me was Henry himself.
From the beginning he was friendly, funny, relaxed and incredibly easy to communicate with. He was always available whenever I had a question or needed something, before and during the tour, and I never once felt like I was just another customer. Everything felt personal and flexible rather than like following some fixed tourist programme.
I was travelling around the time of my 50th birthday, and Henry even surprised me for my birthday. I genuinely wasn’t expecting it, which made it even more special. It is those little things that tell you a lot about somebody — he didn’t have to do it, he just wanted to make the experience memorable for me.
Through Henry I also got to meet some of his friends and people he knows locally, which added another completely different dimension to the trip. Instead of feeling like I was simply visiting the Amazon and looking at it from the outside, for a few days I felt invited into Henry’s world. Those conversations, laughs and unexpected encounters became as memorable as seeing the wildlife itself.
Another thing worth mentioning is safety. You are travelling in some very remote places, but I always felt completely safe and in good hands. Henry knows the area, knows the people and seems to know how to deal with almost anything. That local knowledge gives you a level of confidence that is difficult to put a price on.
You can also see that Henry genuinely cares about the rainforest and the communities living there. This isn’t mass tourism or someone simply trying to move as many tourists as possible through the jungle. There is a real connection to the place and a real respect for it.
I have travelled a LOT, and experiences can sometimes start to blend into each other. This one won’t.
Yes, come for the Amazon, the animals, the jungle and the adventure — they are incredible. But Henry is what turns it from a good Amazon tour into something you will actually remember years later.
I came away feeling that I hadn’t just found a great guide. I had met a genuinely good person and made a friend.

If you are trying to decide who to explore the Ecuadorian Amazon with, I honestly cannot recommend Henry Eco Tours enough. Five stars doesn’t really do the experience justice.
