Very nice, good value, you should go
Gabis Arboretum at Purdue Northwest的点评
点评:You pay $10 per vehicle to get in. This is a fantastic deal.
The center of the arboretum is a wide section of prairie, which you can walk around; or you can hike through the forest. These are mile-plus hikes -- it's a big place.
Near the entrance is a set of small themed gardens. The Rose garden is particularly nice; the roses (shrub roses and tea roses) are beautifully laid and smell divine. There are gorgeous trees everywhere, and enough labels to satisfy the curious. The vegetable garden and children's "adventure garden" hadn't really gotten started for the season when we visited. The playground looked nice.
You have to pay an extra $3 per person to visit the Depot and Railroad Garden. This is a must -- the best miniature railroad we've ever seen. The plants are healthy and well kept, but the trains and dioramas around them kept grabbing our attention. We saw seven different trains running through miniature scenery, over bridges and past waterfalls. Adorable. (In the Depot building they have vending machines, bathrooms, and a small shop -- you don't have to pay to access these.)
Allow at least an hour for the Depot and 30-45 minutes to walk around the small gardens; plus however long you wish to hike.
