Mount Stuart的点评
点评：Going to Mount Stuart is a terrific excursion from Glasgow, or frankly anywhere in Scotland.
From Wemyss Bay, 20 miles west of Glasgow, you hop a very efficient ferry for the ride to Rothesay, on Bute. The views from the ferry are phenomenal, especially in good weather.
Drive off the ferry and along the coast road to Mount Stuart, the seat of the Marquesses of Bute. It’s not an old house, by UK standards, but it’s very impressive. Excellent portrait collection, amazing stained glass windows, and beautiful neo-Gothic architectural features everywhere you look. Extremely helpful staff who will tell you the history of the house and the family, which was once the wealthiest family in the world. No expense was spared in building this enormous structure.
Outside are fine gardens and a superb walk along a sandy beach that goes on forever. The beach walk was a highlight.
To top it off, there is a cafe with fantastic food, including panini toasties that will fill you up for only 8 pounds.
It’s a great one-day excursion to a very magic place.
