Mount Stuart的点评
点评：Quite why, when I have been visiting the beautiful island of Bute off the west coast of Scotland for more than sixty years, I had never been to Mount Stuart, I simply do not know. However, on a gloriously sunny late September day, I remedied that omission.
The visit was certainly worth the wait. I started in the delightful gardens before enjoying a bowl of very tasty homemade lentil soup in the courtyard café. I gather the soup was made by the brother of the young lady who served me and they compete to make the best product. Well his was splendid and I would love to get the recipe!
Suitably nourished, I entered the house and downloaded the free audio guide. In the event, I didn't use it, because there were excellent guides inside whose stories were much better than the formal ones in the guide.
I have never seen a private home like it. Such opulence. Electric light and a lift, well before most folk of a similar class had it. (The elevator can still be used, on request for folk with limited mobility and they will even loan you a portable chair). The basement swimming pool can be viewed for the first time in many years.
My photos, while amazing, can't begin to tell the story in full. To do that, you have to be there.
Don't miss it on a visit to Scotland.
