点评:This was an 'interesting' place in the beautiful town of Courseulles sur mer. Our second visit to the town and we came across this place by chance. We found it after trying to get our 5-year-old daughter to a toilet, and after attempting to access the public toilet to the side of the cinema adjacent to this place and finding it closed, we were getting desperate. As such we entered this bar and bowling establishment. We were greeted by a gaming area consisting of a couple of pool tables,.one of which had a number of young folk around. The place fell silent as we entered, akin to an old western film and a saloon in a remote outpost!
A toilet was right by the front door, which my wife and daughter entered immediately. I took my son into the bar and bowling area and collected information about the bowling with a plan to return a couple of days later for a frame of bowling with the family. As the girl at the bar was busy with one customer and no other staff obvious, I collected opening times from leaflets on the tables. My son and I slowly returned through the pool/games section and watched them play a few shots, marvelled at the one arcade machine and joined my wife and daughter at the door. Then came an interesting moment.
A young man (apparently a staff member) approached us from the pool table. He had reasonable English and asked if we were English. He proceeded to berate us, in front of our children, about the place not being a public toilet. Looking back at the pool table, the other eight or so people were watching on in an unwelcoming and quite threatening way. I attempted to say that it was my five year old daughter that needed he toilet and there was no public toilet available, and we actually had plans to bowl in a few days. None of this mattered and we could barely get any words heard. It was a very hostile and intimidating environment which scared both the children and left my wife and I rather shocked at the experience.
Needless to say, we did not return for bowling there and never will, when and if we return to Courseulles. The bowling looked fine, I guess, all lit with black light and its glowing neon paint. The bar looked well-stocked and food appeared to be little more than packaged snacks. It was high season and the town was a throng of activity everywhere else, but this place was not busy at all and the atmosphere was dead. The emptiness of the place at such a prime time appears to be indicative of the warmth of the welcome one receives there. We understand, however, that this experience is not reflective of any of the other people and businesses in the town, as a more friendly people you may not find in the whole of France!
