点评:We wanted to see the redwoods in Orange County, so we headed to Carbon Canyon Regional Park in April. Get a map or scan the QR code at the entrance. The parking lot nearest the redwood grove was still closed due to heavy rains in the previous few weeks. The shortest trail was also closed; the other trails were longer. We walked past Carbon Canyon dam and saw people walking on top. At the grove, there are information plaques with detailed information, along with a water fountain. Over 200 redwoods were planted in 1975 from seeds left over from a bank promotion. They are shorter and less robust than those in Northern CA but still worth seeing. The trails are wide and flat with a few wildflowers. We did see a rattlesnake slithering into the brush, but it was easily avoided. We entered from Bell’s Vireo Trail and returned on the Redwood Trail, about 3 miles total. Carbon Canyon Creek runs through the park and there are only three places to cross, so plan accordingly (Coyote Pass was closed when we visited). There is also a fishing lake, playgrounds, and tennis courts. Restrooms are in the main area of the park. Thursday was lawn mowing day and it was very loud. If you have time, go across the street and up the hill to the Olinda Oil Museum and Trail for more history about the town that was in what now is the park. There’s a historic operating oil well and other artifacts. The museum is open only limited hours, but there are information plaques.
