点评:Whilst this may be the world's oldest railway line, we weren't aware of it and only visited the railway because we saw a sign and we had some free time. However, we're very glad we did decide to visit the railway. All of the staff (probably volunteers) were very friendly and welcoming (our thanks to the staff). Some of the staff were in period dress, which added to the experience. The steam engine was immaculate and the carriages were very clean and well presented. There are four stations on the line, with Andrews House being the main station. We boarded the train at Tanfield Station, which has a lovely small café, and the timetable allowed us a thirty-five minutes stop at Andrews House Station, which has the main railway yard, engine shed, rolling stock, a book shop, and another lovely cafe. Given that it is a heritage railway, the ticket prices were reasonable. In total, we spent just over two hours at the railway. Had we known about the railway before our visit to the area, we would have factored in more time for a longer visit. Perhaps more could be done to publicise the railway (publicity costs money). However, now you have read this you are aware of the railway. So, pay it a visit and go back in time to support the world's oldest railway.
