点评:We drove up, paid our two dollars, and first went into Fort Frederick. There are a couple tunnels to explore and beautiful views. The explanatory signage was more than adequate. Well worth 20-30 minutes. The real gem, however, was Fort Matthew. Walk down the hill and enter. One of Grenada's many charms is that you can do things that might be deemed too "dangerous" in more developed tourist spots. In this case, Fort Matthew is like Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, or an even a tropical Pompei. Aside from being a fort, Fort Fredrick was a mental "hospital" (more like a prison for people with mental illness, judging by the cells that was bombed during the US intervention. The bombing was one of the most tragic events. It was also a nightclub. You can see evidence of all these periods while going through the ruins and dark passageways. Do not go in the passage ways if you are afraid of bats. The ruins are a striking snapshot of dark times in the past. Even the nightclub ruins are poignant. Watch your step, watch out for the bats, and consider this unique experience.
