点评:Saturday 7th February we were on an organised Tour of the highlights of Martinique. At one time we had some free time which enabled us to explore the Capital City, Fort-de-France.
We were walking in the direction of Fort-de- France Bay. Along the way we walked through a section of this vast Park in the heart of the City. The Park runs alongside Fort Saint Louis.
This public Park is a 12 and a half acres of green open spaces there are numerous pavements that criss cross the Park.
There are a variety of trees including tall royal palms, dotted around the Park providing shade for those sitting on the benches underneath.
It also acts as a venue for hosting festivals, open-air concerts and community events. When we were here we saw parts of stage and lighting gantries that were waiting to be removed following a recent event.
At time of our visit there was a street market with stalls along the grass in the Park. They were selling food, drinks and a wide variety of other items.
We thought that the section of the Park that we walked through was a bit rundown. There was some litter, broken pavements, abandoned shopping trolleys and there were some people who appeared to be sleeping rough.
Across the road, Rue de la Liberte, we saw the impressive building, home to the Museum of Pre-Columbian Archaeology and Prehistory. There were a number of cafes/bars around the perimeter of the Park.
