On Sundays, much of Martinique slows down and many nearby museums and attractions are closed, so expectations should be adjusted but this area is still well worth a visit.
The park itself is shaded, relaxed, and a nice place to walk, sit, and observe local life. Just steps away is Plage de la Française, a small but beautiful city beach with calm water and lovely views of the bay. Its biggest advantage is convenience: you can walk there directly from the cruise terminal without needing transportation.
One important note for visitors: if you’re looking for the decapitated statue of Empress Joséphine, it is no longer there. The statue was removed in 2020, so you won’t see it in the park today.
Overall, this is a great low-key option especially on a Sunday for a relaxing stroll, beach time, and an easy introduction to Fort-de-France without any planning or tours required.
