点评:Disorganized start, about 15 of us were sent up the hill and three flights of stairs to see the aviary, finally starting the tour 45 minutes after booked time. Tour into the underground was about 45 minutes long. It begins about 20m below ground and I think the guide said we ended up 40m below the surface. Harrison’s Caves is a massive network of deep underground tunnels and caverns. It was probably known to the Indigenous peoples who first landed here, but “discovered” and eventually explored and mapped by the British and others, and then forgotten. Until the 1980s when the (new) government of Barbados developed the site as a tourist attraction. There are options for people who want to crawl through some of the still natural tunnels, but we choose the tram, actually a passenger cart on wheels pulled by a lead vehicle, train-style. The caverns are impressive and the stalactites and stalagmites are outstanding. It’s perhaps an expensive 45 minutes, but if you’re into caves and don’t want to get dirty, the tram is the way to go.
