点评:After a thrilling landing on the worlds shortest commercial runway we were ready to start our adventure. We are a couple 66 and 69 who wanted the challenge of climbing the highest point in the Netherlands. We were picked up at the airport by Cyril our taxi driver and driven to the trail starting point. We both wore shorts and Susan chose running shoes and I wore walking sandals. Fortunately Cyril provided us each with a walking pole that made the climb and descent easier. We didn’t count the 1064 stone steps upward but we certainly felt them the next day. We took our time and stopped at the rest huts along the way and also in places where we could get a view. Nearing the top the trail becomes steeper but there are handrails in the difficult spots. The final ascent was across some wooden duckboards and a rope assisted muddy climb to the lookout point. We had noticed the clouds moving in, and regrettably we were socked
In with zero visibility . We could hear the surf down below and for an instant viewed a crescent shaped beach. The climb down was a little faster but we still took our time. We brought water and snacks along but we were hungry and thirsty at the end of our trek. We found a restaurant and then waited for our driver to take us back to the airport. Looking up at the summit we noticed that the clouds were gone and there was a clear view. One of the locals told us that you took your chances in seeing anything but it was still worthwhile.
