点评:The expansive, beautifully maintained flower fields at Shikisai no Oka are spectacular. Vibrant colours, rolling fields and stunning panoramic views — everything you could want from a flower park.
The experience, unfortunately, is another matter.
I found myself in a dilemma when deciding how to rate it. The beauty of the fields alone would deserve five stars. But almost everything surrounding them became a source of frustration for us.
First, there are the golf carts, which can be rented for a very steep price and constantly zoom around the grounds. When you’re walking along the paths, trying to admire the flowers, having to keep an eye out for approaching vehicles — and make sure you’re not run over — is hardly relaxing.
Yes, the grounds are large. But they are perfectly walkable for the able-bodied. In my view, there is little need to provide individual transport for the wider public. It feels more like a lucrative business opportunity than a necessity.
Why not reserve the carts for people who genuinely need them, such as the elderly or those with mobility difficulties, and let everyone else enjoy the fields on foot?
Or, at the very least, switch to electric-powered ones, with less noise and no exhaust fumes.
Then there’s the tractor bus.
A tractor may seem like an appropriate means of transport in an agricultural setting. But these vehicles are noisy and, again, produce exhaust fumes in a place where you should be able to breathe in the fragrance of the flowers.
And then came the final assault.
The jingle.
The tractor buses seemed to be everywhere, and each one was playing the same incessant melody. There was no escaping the buses.
And no escaping the music.
The whole place felt less like a flower park and more like a giant outdoor circus.
Why not switch to a quieter, more environmentally friendly mode of transport — and skip the jingle altogether?
Eventually, we retreated to the far edges of the fields, near the forest, where the traffic was less intrusive. For a few brief moments, we could finally enjoy what we had come for in the first place:
magnificent flowers, beautiful views and a little peace and quiet.
